GitLab.com will host additional JavaScript snippets, some of which proprietary, and surveillance such as Pendo(pendo.io)... Another reason to not use the gitlab.com instance!

@dragnucs yes, the backlash seems to have worked in this case. Still, it's better not to use centralized services like gitlab.com

@Matter Well, at least you don't have vendor lock-in. You can export your account and migrate servers.

@dragnucs there is some lock-in, by the network effect. Using gitlab.com encourages more people to use it, in a sort of social network way (one of the major issues with the GitHub dominance)
